SMVRR Caboose 210 comes home!
The Santa Maria Valley Railroad’s Caboose 210 was brought back home to the Santa Maria Valley Railroad on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The Guadalupe Amtrak Station and parking lot are undergoing a major renovation which necessitated removal of the caboose. The caboose was moved to the Santa Maria Osburn Rail Yard and will now be restored by the Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad.
Caboose 210 was built in 1959 for the Rutland Railroad. After the Rutland went into receivership, the Santa Maria Valley Railroad purchased the caboose in 1962. The caboose was taken out of service in 1992, ending 30 years of service for the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. In 1993 the Guadalupe Chamber of Commerce, City of Guadalupe, Southern Pacific Railroad, and Santa Maria Valley Railroad collaborated to help make Caboose 210 as a display for the Guadalupe Amtrak Station project.
The move of Caboose 210 was made possible by donations from Friends Members, and assistance from the City of Guadalupe and the Santa Maria Valley Railroad.
