For Immediate Release

Santa Maria Valley Railroad Caboose No. 210 Will Be Open for National Train Day at the Guadalupe Amtrak Station this Saturday, May 8th

The former Santa Maria Valley Railroad caboose No. 210, on display at the Guadalupe Amtrak Station in downtown Guadalupe, California, will be open to the public for the first time in almost 20 years during the National Train Day event this Saturday, May 8th, from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

SMVRR Caboose No. 210 was acquired by the Guadalupe Chamber of Commerce and the City of Guadalupe from the Santa Maria Valley Railroad for a display at the Guadalupe Amtrak Station. The past several months volunteers from the Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad have been working to clean up the caboose and repair the flooring inside the caboose. The Santa Maria Valley Railroad assisted with technical support on repairs of the caboose. The Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserve, improve, and interpret the historical aspects of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad.

Volunteers from the Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad and representatives from the Santa Maria Valley Railroad will be on hand at the caboose during National Train Day. On display inside the caboose are tools and artifacts on loan from the Santa Maria Valley Railroad.

The Caboose Open House is part of the National Train Day Celebration. The Guadalupe Chamber of Commerce, Guadalupe Historical Society, City of Guadalupe, and Amtrak will also be present and part of the festivities at the Guadalupe Amtrak Station. The Guadalupe Amtrak Station is currently served by two northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and two southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner passenger trains daily. The Amtrak station is adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad's Guadalupe yard, serving rail customers in the Central Coast and interchanging with the Santa Maria Valley Railroad.
